School of Amplification 2022 Mystery

The School of Amplification is an online conference-discussion built around a single concept or image. When we chose the word "school," we drew on the concept of the ancient Greek school and Socratic debates, where mutual learning occurs through dialogue. Amplification, on the other hand, denotes the expansion of an image through memories, feelings, reflections, cultural associations, and dreams. The "School of Amplification" collection includes all the papers presented at the conference, summarizing discussions in small and large groups.         

This collection contains materials from the second School of Amplification "Secret," held March 19-20, 2022. Its contents include both papers and a generalized, collective amplification by conference participants of images of mystery proposed by the speakers: children's and parents' secrets, intentional omissions and secret-keeping, the unarticulated mysteries of transitions and transformations, the mythologization of missing information and collective secrets, and an exploration of the mysteries of desire and destructiveness. The authors of the papers drew on Dante's "Divine Comedy," the Brothers Grimm's "Spirit in a Bottle," Hauff's "Dwarf Nose," and the Japanese fairy tale "Journey to the Land of Darkness."
