Paul Brutsche. "The Image and Its Meaning."

In Russia, you can buy this book in the online store of the publishing house "Fairy Tale and Myth ".

This book comprises two lectures by Paul Brutsche on the interpretation of drawing, art, and creativity. One concerns the work of contemporary American-French artist Niki de Saint Phalle, and the other a series of drawings depicting ox herding, made in Japan hundreds of years ago by Subun. While the former features baroque, vibrantly decorated, and colorful sculptures, the latter is a restrained and subtle depiction of the Zen Buddhist path to enlightenment, which the author compares with the stages of individuation. The book facilitates a psychological immersion into the symbolic dimension of painting, where a contemporary artist and a master of the ancient painting tradition speak to us in a surprisingly fresh and vibrant language of images.

The book is supplied with color illustrations – photographs of the works discussed in the lectures.

Paul Brütsche is a Jungian analyst from Switzerland. He was director of the art archive at the C. G. Jung Institute. He teaches at the International School of Analytical Psychology (ISAP) in Switzerland and other countries.
